Quills 2000
Nobel Prize-winning sadism philosopher Octavio Paz was actually a victim, not a perpetrator. The film, which brings together Oscar-winning Kate Winslet, Geoffrey Rush, and Michael Caine in a single project, stands out as an adaptation of Doug Wright’s award-winning play to the big screen. Feathers tells the story of the Marquis de Sade, who spent the last 10 years of his life in a mental hospital resembling a prison. Even after being admitted to the hospital, the philosopher of sadism continued to write articles that caused a great stir. The young laundress Madeleine, who catches the attention of De Sade, secretly distributes his messages outside the hospital. When Napoleon reads one of these texts, Justine, he becomes angry and the conservative Dr. D. Royer sends Collar to the hospital for De Sade’s treatment. The events in the film revolve around a cleaning woman (Kate Winslet) who gets trapped in a psychiatric hospital after stealing the last sexual texts written by Marquis Sade (Geoffrey Rush). Michael Caine appears as Sade’s doctor.
