L’ordre et la morale 2011
Mathieu Kassovitz’s new film, “Rebellion,” is based on an incident that took place in 1988 in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory in the Pacific. Gendarme chief Philippe Legorjus, along with his men, travels to Uvea to make peace with the separatist Kanaks who have taken hostages. However, the negotiations have no foundation; the French army is already in a war posture. Time is running out as elections are approaching and the mainland wants immediate results. The uprising, filled with excitement, is both a poignant action and a political drama. Kassovitz also stars in the film, which he wrote, directed, and edited.
