Rope 1948
Alfred Hitchcock’s 1948 film The Rope, adapted from a play by Patrick Hamilton, stars James Stewart, John Dall, Farley Granger, and Joan Chandler. Set in a single location, the film explores the philosophical ideas of various thinkers, from Nietzsche to Freud. Two young men, Brandon and Philip, decide to carry out their murderous thoughts by killing their society friend David. Believing that it is acceptable to kill those who are of no use to society, the duo strangles their friend and hides his body in a chest. Hours after the murder, they host a party at their place and invite their friends, placing food and drinks on the chest where the body lies. However, everyone is waiting for David to arrive, which worries Philip, one of the killers. Brandon tries to keep his cool, but their friend Rupert’s intellect clashes with the duo at the party.
