Former Deadhead Carl Vandermeer (Greg Kinnear) transfers to the Third Millennium Church, now working in the broadcasting department of this mega church run by charismatic Pastor Dan Day (Pierce Brosnan). While discussing a new book with atheist professor Paul Blaylock (Ed Harris) in his office, Dan accidentally commits a crime. Seeing it as a ploy of the devil, Dan tries to cover up the incident and silence Carl, fearing it could jeopardize all their projects. Only former Deadhead Honey Foster (Marisa Tomei) believes Carl’s attempts to reveal the truth.
