Seraphim Falls 2006
The film begins with images of a group of people chasing a wounded man in a snowy forest. Gideon, the man being chased, has no idea why Carver and his men are after him. Despite being injured, Gideon knows how to navigate through many obstacles and doesn’t miss a chance to outwit Carver’s men. The relentless pursuit seems to come to an end when Gideon is captured by construction workers at a railway construction site, but he skillfully escapes and shows that it won’t be an easy task. As Carver approaches him, the reason why Gideon is being chased becomes clear. Gideon, a captain in the Northern army, had come to the home of Carver, a former colonel in the Southern army, to learn about ammunition and former soldiers. However, angry soldiers had burned down Carver’s home with his wife and children inside. As the chase continues, themes of a Native American by the water and a woman selling elixirs in the desert add a philosophical dimension, causing both men to question their next moves. In the end, Gideon and Carver meet, concluding the film with a surprising twist.
