Emily and Martin, a married couple living in America, are seen as exemplary individuals by those around them. Their lives take a drastic turn when Martin gets involved in illegal stock market dealings and ends up in prison. Emily is forced to move to a small apartment in New York City and falls into depression in her husband’s absence. Unable to cope with the events, she struggles to stay afloat with the help of medication. As she waits for her husband for four years, a bond forms between her and her doctor, leading to further complications.
