Eric Stoner (Steve McQueen), known as the Cincinnati Kid, comes to New Orleans to prove himself as the best poker player by defeating the legendary Lancy Howard (Edward J. Robinson). With the help of his old friend Shooter (Karl Malden), he sits at a table where some of the biggest names in the poker world are battling it out fiercely.
