A woman willing to do anything to protect her family and a man willing to risk everything to protect her tell their true story. After the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, seven men and one woman were arrested for conspiring to assassinate the president, vice president, and secretary of state. The only woman among them, Mary Surratt, owner of the boarding house where John Wilkes Booth and others met and planned simultaneous attacks. Although newly minted Frederick Aiken initially reluctantly agrees to defend her in a military tribunal, along the way he realizes that his client may be innocent.
