The Curse of the Jade Scorpion 2001
In the 1940s in New York, CW Briggs is the most famous investigator at the insurance company where he works. He can uncover any fraud. His star, Betty Ann Fitzgerald, who was recently hired to redesign the office, doesn’t get along well with him. Betty Ann believes CW’s methods are outdated, ignoring new research methods like fingerprinting. Claiming that criminals can “get into the brain,” CW acts based on his feelings and gets results. One day, they attend a magician’s show together. The magician hypnotizes them to believe they love each other. Additionally, CW was secretly instructed to steal jewelry from rich mansions at night and doesn’t remember anything the next day, so he can’t uncover the returned crime files. The inexplicable attraction between the confused investigator and Betty Ann complicates things further. Woody Allen, starring alongside talents like Helen Hunt and Dan Aykroyd, returns to Manhattan, where he can’t escape, but this time he goes back decades. While not quite reaching the level of his masterful classics, this is definitely a romantic comedy that knows how to reward its audience.
