In the film “The Duke of Burgundy”, a young woman named Evelyn in her 30s enjoys researching butterflies and visits Cynthia’s house every day to do household chores related to other insect species. Cynthia, who is older than Evelyn, appears to be a graceful woman with cold and harsh attitudes but only serves to mistreat Evelyn. As Cynthia’s mistreatment of Evelyn intensifies, the tasks she assigns become increasingly degrading and humiliating. However, Evelyn complies without protest. Eventually, Cynthia grows tired of their strange relationship and longs for a more traditional one. Evelyn’s dependency will push their bizarre relationship to the breaking point. Directed by Peter Strickland, the film stars Sidse Babett Knudsen, Monica Swinn, and Chiara D’Anna. “The Duke of Burgundy” is a 104-minute drama set to be released in Turkey on May 8, 2015.
