Storyline

The Final Cut 2004

Zoë Chip is an implant that records your entire life. An editor creates a film called Memory Compilation by combining snippets from your life to be shown at your funeral. Zoe’s implants, a toy that grants privileges to elite individuals, fundamentally change human relationships; but there are those who oppose this technology and believe that memories should be forgotten. Alan Hackman, the industry’s top “editor” (played by Robin Williams), is in high demand due to his ability to often show his corrupt clients differently than they really are. However, his ability to look at life with cold detachment has made him unable to live life in the first person. He sees himself as a “sinner” because his job gives him the ability to forgive the sins of the dead. If he cleanses others, he hopes to one day be forgiven himself. While preparing a “Memory Compilation” for a powerful Zoë Tech employee one day, Alan comes across an image from his childhood. Behind this image lies a secret that has haunted him his entire life. This discovery leads Alan on an intense search for truth and forgiveness.
