In a distant future, a virus is spreading that forces people to eat each other, pushing humanity to the brink of extinction. A group of children who have managed to survive without being affected by the virus can control their emotions and thoughts even when exposed to it. These children, under the supervision of a doctor named Caldwell, are subjected to cruel experiments at a military base. When the base is attacked, the children scatter, and the fate of humanity now rests on Melanie, the smartest among them.
