The Hoax 2006
In 1971, two writers, Clifford Irving (Richard Gere) and Richard Saskin (Alfred Molina), meet in Spain and come up with an incredible plan to get rich. After extensive research, Irving writes an unauthorized (and of course based on fake documents and imaginary details) autobiography of reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes. Irving convinces the famous publisher McGraw-Hill that he has a close relationship with Hughes with skillfully prepared documents and manages to sign a very lucrative contract for the book. When the fake book is published, experts immediately suspect its authenticity. Even when Hughes breaks his silence and holds a press conference over the phone, the publisher does not withdraw its support for Irving. After long investigations and almost media frenzy, Irving ends up paying the price for his crime.
