The Hours 2002
Film
Based on Michael Cunningham’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the film follows three women from different time periods, connected through Virginia Woolf and her famous book Mrs. Dalloway. The first woman is, of course, Woolf herself. Suffering from a life filled with illnesses, Woolf writes Mrs. Dalloway; however, her connection to life weakens often due to depression and she finds herself on the brink of suicide. In 1949, a pregnant housewife, preparing to host a party for her husband’s birthday, cannot let go of Mrs. Dalloway and… AIDS. There is a special connection between the two associated with Woolf’s book. This intriguing film, depicting the life of Woolf, one of the most important female writers of the 20th century with a life as colorful as her novels, is definitely a must-watch. Mrs. Dalloway’s novel explores a day in the life of a woman hiding clues to her entire life.
