Coleman Silk, a distinguished professor who has had a successful career at one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, finds his life turned upside down when his extramarital relationship with a cleaning woman is exposed. Some secrets he has kept hidden even from his closest friends for 50 years are on the verge of being revealed. His friend, writer Nathan Zuckerman, focuses on Silk’s relationship, leading to the gradual uncovering of all these secrets.
