The Immigrant 2013
In the story set in 1920, Ewa Cybulski and her sister Magda leave their homeland of Poland and set out for New York. When they arrive on an island called Ellis, Magda unexpectedly falls ill with tuberculosis. Magda is quarantined and Ewa is left alone, falling into Bruno’s trap. Bruno is involved in human trafficking and is determined to succeed in this business. Ewa is willing to do anything to save her sister and be reunited with her. As she starts working as a prostitute, she gains confidence with the arrival of Bruno’s cousin Orlando, but Bruno’s jealousy will lead the two down a deadly path.
