Magician Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell), one of the most beloved figures in Las Vegas, lets his act become stale while his friend Anton Lovecraft (Steve Buscemi) somehow allows their show to be overshadowed by the rising star Steve Gray (Jim Carrey). Bert, who is cynical and worn out, ends up unemployed and broke. Anton goes to Cambodia to show his love of magic to impoverished villagers. Bert’s mentor Rance Hanson (Alan Arkin) not only talks to the sulking Bert and encourages him, but also convinces his assistant Jane (Olivia Wilde) to persuade Bert to return to the stage.
