The Last Duel 2021
Norman knight Jean de Carrouges and Norman lord Jacques le Gris, who are of Frankish and Scandinavian descent living in Normandy, are former very close friends. Carrouges goes to war and when he returns, nothing is the same. Le Gris is being tried for raping Carrouges’ wife. However, no one believes Margerite. As a result, the soldier goes all the way to the King of France to appeal the decision. From the judge’s point of view, Le Gris is in an advantageous position. According to the new court decision, the two men will have a duel and one of them will die as a result. The survivor will have fulfilled God’s will and if Le Gris survives, he will be acquitted. Additionally, if Carrouges loses, his wife will be tied to a stake and burned as punishment.
