Der Name der Rose 1986
Leader of the Franciscans, Michel of Cesena, declares that Jesus and his disciples were poor and that people should live a life of poverty. This earns sympathy from the emperor, but Pope John XXII bases all his arguments on authority and existence. In a monastery in northern Italy, a murder is committed. The respected and knowledgeable Franciscan, Friar William of Baskerville (a former inquisitor), is appointed by the emperor to investigate the case. Alongside him is young monk Dom Adso of Melk, assigned by his father to learn from Friar William.
