Storyline

The Wizard of Oz 1939

In 1939, the film “The Wizard of Oz” was released, based on L. Frank Baum’s novel. Directed by Victor Fleming, Richard Thorpe, Mervyn Leroy, and King Vidor, the film won two Academy Awards and was nominated for four Oscars. Starring Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Billy Burke, Bert Lahr, and Jack Haley, the film tells the story of Dorothy, who lives on a farm with her aunt and uncle. When her neighbors threaten to take away her dog Toto, Dorothy runs away with him and encounters the Wicked Witch of the East in a tornado. After accidentally killing the witch, Dorothy is tasked with finding the Wizard of Oz to return home. Along the way, she meets a tin man, a scarecrow, and a cowardly lion, who all join her on her journey. Each of her new friends is seeking something from the Wizard – a heart, a brain, and courage. Together, they face challenges and obstacles on their way to meet the Wizard and fulfill their wishes.
