Trois couleurs: Bleu 1993
Three Colors: Blue (Original title: Trois Couleurs: Bleu) is the first film in a series directed by Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski, with music by Zbigniew Preisner. The trilogy’s other two films are Three Colors: White and Three Colors: Red. Three Colors: Blue is dedicated to the theme of “freedom,” one of the foundations of the French Revolution. The film follows Julie, who struggles with the loss of her daughter and composer husband Patrice de Courcy in an accident. Initially unable to cope with the absence of her family, Julie attempts suicide but later decides to finish her husband’s unfinished composition due to his death. She must also confront truths from the past that have never been told or come to light. The road to freedom is fraught with obstacles. As she tries to complete this composition in honor of the formation of the European Union, she becomes estranged from her old circle and friends, and grows closer to Olivier Benoit, who helped her husband in his treatment.
