Transamerica 2005
Transsexual Brie (formerly Stanley), days away from her last surgery, receives a call from her son as a result of the only sexual encounter she had with a man. Her son is in jail and someone needs to get him out. Reluctantly, Bree agrees to take the trip to New York to bail out her handsome, cocaine-addicted son Toby. Along the way, unexpected events unfold as they travel from Los Angeles to New York. Transamerica is a standout film of the year, with Felicity Huffman delivering a stellar performance as Bree, a woman trapped in a man’s body, and telling the story of a stranger who wants to be recognized but also hopes to go unnoticed, with sweet, genuine, and timid eroticism.
