True Grit 2010
In the post-Civil War America of the 1870s, 14-year-old Matty Ross seeks justice for her father’s murder and hires the tough and reckless Rooster Cogburn to track down the cowardly Tom Chaney, who is accused of killing her father for money. Along the way, Texas Ranger LaBeouf joins them, wanting to capture Chaney and take him back to Texas. As this unlikely trio sets out on their pursuit, they find themselves in the midst of unexpected confrontations, facing cruelty and evil, disappointment and courage, resilience and pure love. Nominated for 10 Oscars, this film by acclaimed directors Joel and Ethan Coen is considered one of their best works, with a standout performance by the young actress Hailee Steinfeld bringing to life one of literature’s bravest female protagonists.
