Cesira, who was left widowed early, leaves Rome with her beloved daughter Rosetta’s secretary to survive the 1943 bombing. As they travel to their village and back to Rome after the Allies arrive, he tries his best to protect his daughter but fails. Two Women, adapted from a novel by Moravia, showcased Sophia Loren’s acting talent. With this film, Loren won the Academy Award, Cannes, and BAFTA for Best Actress in 1961, and the film also received the New York Film Critics Award for Best Foreign Film in 1961 and a Golden Globe in 1962.
