Dupree suddenly enters the world of Carl and Molly, who recently got married and created their ideal world. Dupree, a lazy man with a poet’s mentality, has no intention of leaving his ramshackle guest house. He was fired by his boss for going to Hawaii for a week to be Carl’s best man at Carl and Molly’s wedding. Now unemployed and without a car, Dupree just needs a few days to recover. He asks the Carl-Molly couple to take him in. But what if this stay lasts for a month or more ….
